Galerie de la Présidence is delighted to announce the acquisition by the Musée d’art moderne André Malraux (MuMa Le Havre) of a Albert Marquet’s masterpiece:
“Le Havre, le bassin”, 1906.
“Le Havre, le bassin” was painted in Le Havre from Albert Marquet‘s room at the Hotel du Ruban Bleu. Marquet stayed in Le Havre with Raoul Dufy during the month of July 1906 and realized 18 paintings. This work is a major painting of the Fauve period.

Work purchased by the museum of modern art André Malraux (Muma) in Le Havre
The acquisition was made possible with the participation of the City of Le Havre, the Normandy region, the Association des Amis du MuMa and private companies.
Le Havre, le bassin has joined the 12 paintings and 23 drawings by Albert Marquet that were already in the MuMa’s collections. This painting was exhibited for the first time at the André Malraux Museum of Modern Art on 21 September 2019, on the occasion of the event “Les Journées du Patrimoine”.
