Jean FAUTRIER 1898-1964
With frame:
46 x 55 cm – 18.11 x 21.65 in.
With an informal rage to live and create, Fautrier continued his research into the alchemy of materials. At the end of the 1930s, Fautrier abandoned figuration and concentrated on how to structure his works. The pastel pigments that enriched the pictorial support allowed him to obtain a thick and translucent effect.
Composition from 1958 is deeply impressive for its thick, shiny material, violent and
spontaneous. The central square shape floats above a bluish nimbus, combining purplish hues
with a few touches of yellow and blue.
Composition (1958) shows the pictorial and virtuoso evolution of Jean Fautrier in the search for an informal light through matter. Colors, particularly blue, became luminous and impalpable.
