Gaston CHAISSAC 1910-1964
With frame:
55 x 48 cm – 21.65 x 18.89 in.
In this gouache, Chaissac fragments space into a mosaic of irregular shapes, outlined in black, while the colors are applied in flat areas-blue, red, yellow, green, pink, brown-with no apparent hierarchy but creating an inner energy, almost vital. Finally, a face characteristic of Chaissac emerges from the composition, like an apparition rising from the chaos of forms, and seems to smile at us.
"Composition à une tête" (Single head composition) from 1962 by Gaston Chaissac is a work that powerfully embodies the artist's unique pictorial universe, at the crossroads of art brut and expressive abstraction.
