Three years before dedicating this gouache Rhythm Color (Rythme Couleur) to the collector Jean Sainsaulieu, Sonia Delaunay exclaimed "Color brings me joy".
Since the beginning of her career, Sonia was fascinated by the power of color. She played on colorful contrasts as if they were a musical score that became pictorial.
In Rhythm Color (Rythme Couleur), everything is dynamic and timed. The curved and straight segments of pure colors are entangled, composing a pulsating rhythm. This composition comes to life like a heartbeat. It is a true ode to joy.
