Marcel Gromaire, L’Élégance de la Force

Marcel Gromaire, a major artist of the 20th century, occupies a special place in the Galerie de la Présidence, which represents his work permanently. Françoise Chibret-Plaussu, in collaboration with François Gromaire, produced Marcel Gromaire’s Oils Catalogue Raisonné  (published in 1993). The Watercolour Catalogue Raisonné is currently being prepared.

We are therefore very happy to share the announcement of a great exhibition dedicated to Marcel Gromaire and which we are lending works for:

This exhibition will take place in three museums:

Opening this beautiful program at the Eugène Boudin Museum in Honfleur, more than 120 works from private collections and various museums in France will show all the genres of Marcel Gromaire’s work : landscapes, social scenes of rural and industrial life , portraits and nudes.

Because the artist has stayed several times in Honfleur, a particular focus will be on the theme of water with a wide variety of topics: his native Sambre, the Norman shores, the island of Manhattan or the Ile de la Cité.

This exhibition benefits from the exceptional collaboration of the Museum of Modern Art of the City of Paris which retains 78 oils on canvas by Marcel Gromaire from the collection of Dr. Girardin.
