Exhibitions devoted to Jean Fautrier are rare... In this exhibition, we presented a collection of works by Jean Fautrier from the 1920s, known as his "Dark Period," rich in power and intensity: Several oils from the famous dealers Jeanne Castel and Paul Guillaume, early advocates and collectors of his works. A collection of rare and large red chalks—vigorously modeled nudes—of exceptional quality, "worth the trip in and of themselves" (Marcel-André Stalter, Professor of Contemporary Art History, doctoral thesis on "Jean Fautrier," Sorbonne University, Paris IV, 1982). During his "Dark Period," Fautrier revealed the most intimate, figurative, and highly expressionist aspects of his work.
